Airport operator Finavia has selected Smiths Detection’s partner Oy Machine Tool Co to install eight HI-SCAN 10080 XCT baggage scanners at Helsinki Airport, Finland.

The HI-SCAN 10080 XCT scanners feature high-resolution X-ray technology, advanced detection algorithms and computed tomography (CT).

The baggage systems will be installed between September 2018 and December 2019.

Oy Machine Tool Co will also provide three HI-SCAN 100100V-2is systems for screening over-sized baggage and will replace the existing HI-SCAN 100100V-2is scanners with new systems.

Certified to the ECAC 3.1 Standard, the scanners will enhance baggage handling capacity and security at the airport.

A consortium of Leonardo and motion06 has been awarded a €150m ($175.2m) contract to modernise baggage handling systems at Zurich International Airport in Switzerland.

Upgrading the existing baggage handling system’s electromechanical and IT systems will increase the throughput up to 16,000 bags an hour.

Singapore Airlines’ low-cost carrier Scoot has extended its existing long-term communication network services agreement with SITA for SITA AirportHub.

The extended contract will allow Scoot to expand and add new routes to its network using SITA AirportHub solution, which will help connect the airline’s central IT systems with airports in its network of routes worldwide.

The service will offer high-speed in-flight internet connectivity aimed at enhancing the passenger experience.

The Government of Canada has expanded existing aviation agreements with Egypt and the UAE to improve air transport relationships with both the countries.

Airlines will be able to offer improved service with more travel options for their customers with the expanded deals.

The Canada-Egypt deal will increase the weekly number of passenger flights from four to seven and allow designated airlines to operate flights in other country’s territory.
