Frequentis and the Unidad Administrativa Especial de Aeronáutica Civil de Colombia (Aerocivil) are undertaking a transformative aeronautical message handling system (AMHS) upgrade project, with FRISSON Technologies serving as the prime contractor. This upgrade will elevate Aerocivil’s message handling capabilities to the forefront of modern aviation technology through an innovative virtualised solution.
The project continues the public bidding process initiated by Colombia’s Civil Aviation Authority in 2009 with the deployment of the message handling system, which was later updated in 2016. With the latest enhancement, Aerocivil’s systems will receive a comprehensive upgrade, followed by dedicated service support from Frequentis to ensure ongoing operational stability.
“This system upgrade provides Aerocivil with cutting-edge virtualisation technology, enabling enhanced operational efficiency and reliability. It has been a smooth transition to the new system, thanks to the familiarity of Aerocivil’s teams with Frequentis’ products, reducing potential disruption during the upgrade process,” says Aerocivil secretary for air navigation services Carlos Uriel Barragán.
This AMHS system upgrade represents an important milestone in the development of aviation communications in the region, highlighting the importance of robust, virtualised solutions in enhancing air traffic management (ATM) operations.
