On 19 October 2020, Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL) and Edda Systems signed a contract for the delivery of the eCoach 3D TWR simulator system to Inverness, Scotland. Some of HIAL’s objectives for the simulator were to:
- Deliver approach radar training.
- Carry out research and development to support the introduction of remote aerodrome control at five HIAL airports.
- Contribute to HIAL’s environmental objectives, including HIAL’s objective to work in partnership with the Scottish Government to create the world’s first zero emission aviation region.
Special features were introduced to the eCoach simulator to enable HIAL’s remote tower research activities.
The system was set up in Norway using the eCoach Cloud server solution, which will enable the training of personnel in both remote locations and central training facilities to be integrated.
After FAT and shipping, HIAL installed the system in Inverness and performed SAT. The system was SAT approved by January 2021. The delivery of the project was successfully conducted without any travel or physical meetings due to the Covid-19 restrictions.
