Instituto Nacional de Aeronáutica Civil (INAC) in Venezuela has begun operating the Comsoft Solutions AIDA-NG message handling system (AMHS), to create the second South American inter-regional gateway following Peru.
Venezuela plays an important role for aviation in South America being an entry point for flights from Europe, the Caribbean, and the US. The MHS upgrade project has provided INAC with modern technology with the best performance and reliability on the market and transformed the way in which they transmit messages and aeronautical data.
INAC project manager Rafael Briceño says: “We are extremely pleased with the performance, technical ability and expertise of Comsoft Solutions, there was a great dynamic between the teams and we always felt a strong level of support.
“In our opinion, they have the best product quality on the market and their experience with project delivery ensured the best time management and development of our AMHS system.”
The delivery included a central and highly redundant AMHS node at the Air Traffic Control in Maiquetía, and close to 200 AMHS terminals nationwide, as well as central network monitoring for the entire system.
The fully redundant AMHS system includes ATS Message Server, AFTN switch, and AFTN/AMHS Gateway. The addition of Comsoft Solutions’ user terminal CADAS-ATS also supports the operation of AFTN client terminals and AMHS User Agent client terminals in parallel for a smooth transition from AFTN to AMHS. The system for Venezuela is also equipped with a remote access router enabling remote maintenance.
Comsoft Solutions business unit manager Uwe Kurpat says: “The successful completion of the AMHS upgrade for Venezuela can be attributed to the great cooperation of teams on both sides. A new test and training system has also been installed at Maiquetia allowing INAC to simulate or reproduce different operational scenarios ensuring the continuous improvement of their message service quality.”
Venezuela is now the third country in the South American region to trust Comsoft Solutions AIDA-NG as their core message handling system, after Colombia and Peru, and all three countries were able to complete a smooth interconnection in less than two weeks.
The ability for AIDA-NG to handle an almost unlimited number of connections via various serial lines, or LAN, further confirms its capability. The migration of additional international connections is being coordinated over the coming months.
