Cavotec

Leading global engineering group Cavotec is to supply a complete air and electrical power solution for a United Airlines wide-body aircraft hangar at Washington Dulles International Airport, an order that follows similar successes in both the US and Asian aviation markets in recent months.

"Working closely with the client and our partners on this project, we have designed a comprehensive solution that meets the unique demands of this application," says Gary Matthews, managing director Cavotec Inet.

Under the terms of the contract, Cavotec will design, manufacture and install 400Hz motor generators, associated pit assemblies, and pre-conditioned air units according to specific design requirements.

The order also includes jet engine air start equipment, and hoses that connect aircraft to pits assemblies. Cavotec has also been contracted to supply additional services such as engineering support and site testing. Delivery is scheduled to start in May 2013.

The equipment will be installed in a wide body hangar to include the new Boeing 787 aircraft. Cavotec has designed and installed similar systems for Airbus A380 superjumbo aircraft at several airports in the Middle East.

Washington Dulles International Airport is located some 26 miles (42km) from central Washington DC. It serves 83 domestic destinations and 49 international routes, and in 2011, 23.2 million passengers used the airport.

Cavotec is a leading system designer and integrator for the global airports sector. Working in close cooperation with airports, airlines and industry bodies, the Group manufactures a diverse range of advanced GSE including systems for 400Hz power, pre-compressed air (PCAir), fuel and wet services, connectors, tow-bars, caddies and pantographs.

The Group’s Airports market unit includes Cavotec Fladung, Cavotec Meyerinck, Cavotec Dabico and Cavotec INET. Between them, these companies have pioneered several GSE technologies that are now in use at commercial and other applications all around the world. Cavotec’s airports offering has recently been strengthened with the acquisition of Swedish ground support equipment manufacturer, Combibox.
