Russian airport, Baikal, located in Ulan-Ude, the capital of Republic of Buryatia in south-eastern Siberia, was acquired in May 2011 by Metropol, an international investment and industrial group with Russian capital, in order to develop the transport infrastructure of the region.
Lufthansa Consulting has been contracted by the airport management, first of all to elaborate a development strategy for the airport for the next 15 years and secondly to provide basic support after that period.
With the experience of Lufthansa Consulting the project aims to realise the full potential of the airport. Experts will analyse the market potential, provide a technical assessment and make a 15-year forecast. Then they will define what markets should be developed, ways to approach them and additional infrastructure improvements that need to be undertaken.
Within a relatively short period of around four months the airport management will get a clear understanding of which markets should be targeted in the medium to long term, which steps are recommended to achieve successful market access and which costs are expected for this development.
