Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) company of South Africa is embarking on an intensive air traffic control officers (ATCO) recruitment drive in South Africa.
In Mthata, Eastern Cape, 48 learners will be assessed today. Other towns that will be visited in the next two days are King Williams Town and Port Elizabeth.
A total of 151 learners who recently passed their grade 12 examinations will sit for their occupational personality (OP) assessment. This questionnaire provides an indication of the candidate’s preferred behavioural style in a work situation. It also looks at how a candidate will fit within certain work environments and how he/she will cope with different job requirements.
Learners who are successful will be recipients of the ATNS ATCO trainee bursary programme.
ATNS in partnership with the Eastern Cape Department of Transport started the recruitment process a month ago in the province. Learners were urged to apply through various communication mediums.
Qualifying learners have met the following requirements which include a grade 12 pass with mathematics (not maths literacy) level 4/ D (HG)/ C (SG) and English level 4/ D (HG)/ C (SG).
This initiative is in line with the transport department’s transport sector skills revolution campaign, which seeks to ensure that we produce the scarce skills required by this critical sector of our economy.
In the Eastern Cape, there are more than 300 young people, who have benefitted from the department’s bursaries and who are doing their National Diploma in civil engineering. It coincides with our commitment to the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s 2011/12 campaign that seeks to take civil aviation to more disadvantaged areas of our society.
This drive is set to be extended to other provinces as well.
