Following an intensive two year tender process Ultra Electronics, Airport Systems, in partnership with Oman Investment Corporation, has received a letter of award relating to an airport IT and systems integration contract in the Sultanate of Oman. The contract, worth RO127.5m, approximately £207m at current exchange rates, will see Ultra act as the master systems integrator for the new terminal developments at Muscat and Salalah airports.
Commissioned by the Omani Ministry of Transport & Communications, Muscat and Salalah airports are being developed to be capable of handling 48 million and ten million passengers per annum respectively.
Ultra’s wide ranging portfolio of proven airport products, extensive systems integration expertise and strong partner consortium were instrumental in winning the contract. These key strengths will ensure Ultra is able to deliver the full scope of this project, including all airport operational systems, building systems and communication and network infrastructure.
“This award is an affirmation of the industry’s recognition of Ultra’s expertise and experience in large scale systems integration and special airport systems projects,” commented Aidan Douglas, managing director of Ultra Electronics, Airport Systems. “Our past successes and continuing engagements with the BAA, Heathrow Terminal 5 and Shanghai Pudong contributed significantly to the tender board awarding this contract to Ultra Electronics, and continues our aspiration to be recognised as the airport industry’s premier complex systems integration specialist.”
Scheduled for completion in 2014, the project will create around 450 jobs during the three years of the project execution phase and around 50% of the contract value (RO50m) will be awarded to local Omani companies.
