Vanderlande Industries and Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) signed a contract to supply the baggage handling system for the new terminal at Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, in a project worth €5 million. Earlier in 2011 Vanderlande also won the contract for the supply of arrival carousels in the existing passenger terminal, with which Baku Airport is ready to receive the high influx of passengers expected in May 2012, when the Eurovision song contest will be held in Baku. Eventually the entire airport will be fully equipped with state-of-the-art Vanderlande Industries systems.
Late last year Vanderlande Industries received the first order from AZAL to replace the existing arrival carousels in the existing passenger terminal with new Triplanar carousels. This project was finished in April, allowing the airport to receive peak numbers of passengers for the upcoming Eurovision Song contest in Baku in May this year.
Vanderlande Industries also completed a comprehensive baggage handling system design for the new passenger terminal, which provides a number of operational advantages. Vanderlande Industries received the order for supply of this baggage handling system in April 2012.
The baggage handling system in the new terminal includes 24 check-in positions, a security screening concept according with the latest ECAC Standard 3 regulations, a BAXORTER loop sorter which sorts to eleven destinations, high-level controls and a baggage reconciliation system. The arrivals system in the new terminal includes four tilted Triplanar arrival carousels with feeding lines.
The baggage handling system is scheduled to be operational in July 2013.
