Vanderlande Industries was recently awarded a contract to deliver the baggage handling system for Hanoi International Airport’s new terminal 2 in Vietnam. The Japanese main contractor Taisei Vinaconex Joint Venture (TVJV) and consultant JAC as well as the Vietnamese end-user ACV (Airport Corporation Vietnam) all chose Vanderlande’s proposal as the best technical solution.

With this order, Vanderlande became the market leader for automated baggage handling systems in Vietnam, introducing automated sorting and integrated 100% hold baggage screening. After Danang Airport, Hanoi will have the second Vanderlande automated baggage system in Vietnam. The system is designed for 10 million passengers per year and will be operational in December 2014.

The new baggage handling system at Hanoi Terminal 2 will consist of:

  • Four check-in islands, each with 24 check-in positions
  • Integration of customs screening and Security screening, up to level 5
  • Helixorter tilt tray sorter
  • Four tilted Triplanar carousels for flight make up
  • Two manual coding stations
  • One transfer infeed position
  • Six flat Triplanar arrival carousels with feeding lines
  • Advanced Vibes SAC software
  • Vibes BRS (baggage reconciliation)

Vanderlande is currently working on several other projects in the South East Asia region. As passenger numbers are rising, the need for new and automated baggage handling systems in South East Asia is met by the competitive and efficient concepts that Vanderlande Industries offers.

Earlier this year Vanderlande won two other automatic systems in South East Asia, both airports are in Indonesia – Kuala Namu International airport in Medan and Sepinggan International Airport in Balikpapan.
