Vanderlande has been awarded the contract to install eight SCANNOJET automated passenger checkpoints at Bergen Airport in Norway. Bergen airport Flesland is the second largest of the 46 airports in Norway, included Oslo airport, owned and operated by Avinor.
Competition was strong for the contract and seven unique bids were tendered. Vanderlande was ultimately selected for the project owing to the efficient design and delivery method of the SCANNOJET system. The company achieved the highest overall score with regard to key criteria, such as total cost of ownership, performance and project planning.
This is a significant milestone for Vanderlande in a competitive market that has enjoyed rapid growth in recent times.
In particular, the automated tray return system (ATRS) sector is booming. The Bergen Flesland project confirms Vanderlande’s position as a company that continually develops innovative solutions, delivers added value and ensures that its customers maintain their competitive edge.
Alongside the eight SCANNOJET units, Bergen airport has requested Passenger Checkpoint (PCP) furniture and asked that the new systems are fully prepared for and compatible with remote screening functionality. SCANNOJET works by guaranteeing a steady stream of trays to the initial point on the conveyor. This new technology has been engineered to improve both security and the passenger experience at an airport’s most sensitive area.
"We’re excited to have signed this contract with Bergen Airport Flesland," says Vanderlande’s executive vice-president Andrew Manship. "We have every confidence in our SCANNOJET system, and due to its modular design and configuration, Bergen Airport will enjoy higher levels of throughput rates and security. It will also deliver a fantastic experience to their passengers for many years to come."
At Bergen Airport, individual passengers will have continued access to trays at the divesting stations. These have been designed ergonomically to ensure a comfortable experience for all travellers. Users will not experience the checkpoints as a barrier, thus enabling a smooth flow through security with a higher throughput.
The new SCANNOJET systems will bring a number of other benefits to the airport. The units are modular, which means that they are easier to install, maintain and upgrade if required. As a result, Bergen Airport will benefit from a future-proof system that can be seamlessly adapted to new technologies and regulations. Security will also be safeguarded remotely, which optimises the screening process.
Vanderlande will demonstrate its latest automated baggage handling solutions at Passenger Terminal Expo 2017 from 14 to 16 March in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In particular, visitors will be able to see a scale model of SCANNOJET, the passenger checkpoint solution. Vanderlande will also highlight its total process control concept with the latest innovative systems, intelligent software and life-cycle services on stand 7060, hall 8.
