Vanderlande Industries has been awarded the contract for a new baggage handling system as part of the new Terminal D at Kiev Boryspil International Airport. The total value for the contract for Vanderlande Industries is approximately €9.6m.
The Ukraine, together with Poland, will host the UEFA European soccer championships in 2012. The capital of the Ukraine, Kiev, has been selected to host the final match. To be able to cope with the additional passenger traffic, a new state-of-the art international passenger terminal will be built.
Vanderlande Industries was awarded the contract because it offered the best solution that resulted in the lowest lifecycle costs and optimal operational performance.
The project for Vanderlande Industries includes, among other equipment, 60 check-ins, inline screening, a Helixorter tilt tray sorter, a lane-based early bag storage for 750 bags, make-up and arrival carousels, an all-new Vanderlande baggage reconciliation system (embedded in the VIBES software suite) and a CCTV system. Takeover of the system is scheduled for the end of August 2011, well in time for the EUFA 2012 soccer championship final in Kiev.
This project is the second in a row for Vanderlande in the Ukraine: in October 2009 Kharkov Airport awarded Vanderlande Industries the contract for the supply of a baggage system, also to be ready ahead of the UEFA 2012 soccer championship.
The baggage reconciliation system (VIBES BRS) offers airport operators a further expansion of functionalities within the Vanderlande VIBES software environment.
