It is well known that Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport is the largest airport in France and one of the busiest in Europe. With more than 58 million passengers in 2010 it has benefited from huge investments in the last ten years, including new terminals, improvements to transport and a better connection network to deal with increasing numbers of passengers and traffic volumes.

Among different and complex activities to be carried out in the management and operation of an airport like Roissy-CDG, the installation of security fences could seem to be a secondary activity. But it is not like this; fences have great importance in safety and security for both passengers and operators and in the physical protection and separation of sensitive areas within the airport structure.

Some fencing structures, because they are installed in critical areas (close to the runways, ILS or other radar instruments) need to be radio-transparent, a-magnetic and, often need to be fragile so they are not a hazard in the event of an aircraft collision.

Fibre Net, with its FIBREFENCE – fencing system consisting of mesh, posts and accessories made of FRP (glass fibre reinforced polymer) material, has represented an excellent solution to the requirements expressed by the management company Aéroports de Paris-ADP.

Thanks to the flexibility in product design and manufacturing offered by Fibre Net, a special fence project has been issued according to specifications given by ADP, and fully in compliance with ICAO standards. As a result about 1,500mt of FIBREFENCE was installed in the first few months of 2011.

The adoption of glassfibre and thermosetting resin products, with total absence of steel or magnetic parts, guarantees the radio-transparency levels as required in the presence of flight assistance radar equipment (ILS or other) while the nature of materials used grants frangible behaviour in case of impact. In terms of durability FRP is a thermosetting product so it doesn’t need to be maintained. It guarantees a much longer lifetime in corrosive, heavy weathering and temperature range environments with respect to any other plastic material.
