By GlobalDataThis new technology has helped Gatwick to develop its new infrastructure for the screening of vehicles. The four-lane vehicle screening facility can now be used to monitor the high volume of airport traffic, including staff, maintenance and catering vehicles.
The company claimed that the technology would help in the improvement of detection rates of prohibited articles and explosives. It will also enable vehicles to access airside more effectively and efficiently.
Chemring claims that VehicleScan is the world’s most advanced under vehicle surveillance solution, which uses high-resolution line-scan technology to deliver complete colour images of the underside of a vehicle with minute detail.
Each vehicle entering the airport premises would be cross checked using automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) to ensure that only vehicles that are approved in the airport database are given access to the airfield.
The use of ANPR would also help the airport to report on vehicle queue times, which can be used to improve the efficiency of staffing rotas and better understand who is on and off site.
The new technology is a part of Chemring’s wider site security solutions, which also include CCTV, standalone ANPR and site access control equipment.
