The UK Government has allocated £10m to support development of new technologies for the civil aerospace industry.

The companies working on innovative technologies can apply for a share in the funding, to facilitate their R&D projects and feasibility studies.

The funds will support development of new manufacturing solutions, advanced materials and processes, technologies to enhance vehicle efficiency, processes that reduce cost of owning vehicles and modelling and simulation techniques.

Previously called the Technology Strategy Board, Innovate UK is managing the funding competition programme.

"Small businesses will receive grants of up to 70% of project costs."

Innovate UK said that the primary focus is to encourage companies outside the aerospace sector that could bring in technical expertise and work on civil aerospace applications.

Small businesses will receive grants of up to 70% of project costs, while medium-sized and large businesses given 60% and 50% of the costs respectively.

Total collaborative R&D projects are estimated to cost around £1m and feasibility studies up to £100,000.

The R&D projects must be completed within 36 months and feasibility studies in up to 18 months, Innovate UK.

The competition opens on 29 June and the companies can make registrations until 9 September.

A networking event and a webinar competition will be conducted in London in April and July respectively.
