
Lufthansa group plans to acquire 40 aircraft from Airbus, worth about $3.4bn.
The aircraft will be used by Lufthansa and two subsidiary airlines, Swiss and Germanwings.
The orders include 20 A320 family aircraft and three A330-300s for Lufthansa, four A320 family aircraft and five A330-300s for Swiss, as well as eight A319s for Germanwings.
The A320 single-aisle family is designed for flying in short to medium-haul sectors.
The A330-300 aircraft specialises in medium to long ranges with its maximum range of up to 5,850 miles, carrying 380 passengers in a three-class configuration.
