American International Group’s (AIG) aircraft leasing unit, International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC), is in talks with several national and commercial airlines to try and double its footprint in Africa by 2015.
ILFC vice-president Ozzie Chraibi told Reuters that the company aimed to double its exposure in Africa from the current 20 aircraft in the next five years.
At present, ILFC leases Boeing and Airbus passenger aircraft in eight African countries, including to South African Airways, the national airline of Africa’s biggest economy.
Global air travel rebounded in May 2010, with African carriers reporting an increase in demand of 16.9%, according to Reuters, citing the International Air Transport Association.
