Reshetnev Informational Satellites Systems has completed acoustic tests on the Glonass-K satellite.
The acoustic test is a type of ground experimental testing carried out to verify the stability of the satellite at acoustic loads that will impact it during the launch sequence.
The test has been successful and the spacecraft will now be tested under vibration loads in the next phase.
Glonass-K is a new-generation spacecraft with an extended lifetime of ten years. It is part of the Russian Glonass constellation, an equivalent of the US’s global positioning system.
The satellite is due for its maiden launch in 2010.
