Airbus has announced that it received commitments for 255 aircraft, valued at around $28bn, at the 2010 Farnborough Air Show.

The commitments include firm orders for 133 aircraft worth over $13bn with memorandum of understanding (MoU) agreements for a further 122 aircraft, totalling about $15bn.

GECAS placed firm orders for 60 A320s worth about $4.9bn, Air Lease Corporation ordered 51 A320 family aircraft worth $4.4bn and Aeroflot ordered 11 A330-300s worth $2.3bn.

Additionally, Garuda Indonesia plans to purchase six A330-200s worth $1.2bn and Germania intends to acquire five A319s worth $372m.

The MoU commitments include 40 A320s and ten A321s together worth $4.2bn from LAN, and ten A330-200s worth $1.9bn and 15 A350 XWBs worth $3.8bn from Hong Kong Airlines.

The MoUs also cover 40 A320s worth $3.3bn from Virgin America and seven A330-300s worth $1.5bn from Thai Airways International.

Airbus customers chief operating officer John Leahy said that the commitments received bring the total firm orders this year to over 260 aircraft.

“This clearly proves that the market is back, and that our new end of year target for over 400 orders is within reach,” he said.
