The Ariane 5 for Arianespace’s third mission in 2010 is ready for the final launch preparation phase, during which it will receive its dual-satellite payload.
Ariane 5 ECA will carry the NILESAT 201 and RASCOM-QAF1R, both developed by Thales Alenia.
The rocket was delivered to Arianespace this month by Astrium.
The NILESAT 201 will deliver digital direct-to-home (DTH) TV and radio broadcasting and high-speed data transmission services to North Africa and the Middle East for operator Nilesat.
Based on the Spacebus 4000B2 platform, the satellite is equipped with 24 Ku-band and four Ka-band transponders, and will weigh nearly 3,200kg.
The 3,000kg RASCOM-QAF1R will cover the African continent, parts of Europe and the Middle East, from an orbital slot of 2.85°E and is equipped with 12 Ku-band and eight C-band transponders.
