E2 planes

E2 is the second generation aircraft of Embraer’s E-Jet family of commercial jets. The E-2 aircraft series comprises of three new variants which include E190-E2, E195-E2, and E175-E2, which are expected to enter into service in 2018, 2019 and 2020 respectively.

The E2 aircraft was launched at the Paris Air Show in June 2013. Embraer plans to invest about $1.7bn for the development of the three aircraft over the next eight years.

E2 orders and deliveries

"Embraer plans to invest about $1.7bn for the development of the three aircraft over the next eight years."

At the Paris Air Show, SkyWest Airlines placed a firm order for 100 E175-E2 aircraft, with another 100 Purchase Rights, bringing the total potential of the order to 200 aircraft. If all the orders are exercised, the contract has an estimated value, at list price, of $9.36bn.

International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) ordered for 25 E190-E2 and 25 E195-E2 aircraft at the Paris Air Show in June 2013.

ILFC further ordered for 50 E2 jets including 25 E190-E2 and 25 E195-E2 aircraft in July 2013.

The order is estimated to be worth $2.85bn at current list prices. The first deliveries of E2 aircraft are expected to be made in 2018.

Embraer E2 aircraft design

The wings of the E2 will have a high-aspect ratio and feature an advanced aerodynamic design. The new generation aircraft will be designed to reduce the fuel consumption, emissions, noise and maintenance costs.

The length of the three variants E175-E2, E190-E2, and E195-E2 will respectively be 32.3m (106ft), 36.2m (119ft), and 41.5m (136ft). The heights will respectively be 9.98m (32.7ft), 11m (36ft), and 10.9m (36ft).

E-2 jet flight deck and avionics

The E2 aircraft will be equipped with Primus EpicTM 2 advanced integrated avionics system developed by Honeywell.

The avionics will include large landscape displays with next generation flight management system (NGFMS). It will also include advanced graphics capabilities, and 4th generation full fly-by-wire flight controls.

The avionics suite will provide pilot situational awareness and flexibility for innovation on the flight deck.

Cabin details of the second generation E-jets

The aircraft will feature a wide cabin without any middle seats. The design contract of the aircraft cabin was awarded to Priestmangoode, a UK-based company. The interior design of the cabin will be improved to deliver more comfort and flexible environment for the passengers.

In a typical single-class layout, the E175-E2 will have a seating capacity of 88 passengers with one additional seat row compared to the current generation E175 commercial jet. The E190-E2 will accommodate 106 passengers, and E195-E2 will provide seating for 132 passengers.

Embraer E2 engine and performance

The E2 aircraft will be fitted with two geared turbofan engines developed by Pratt & Whitney. The E175-E2 will be fitted with two PW1700G engines, with each engine generating about 15,000lbf of thrust. The E190-E2 and E195-E2 will be fitted with two PW1900G engines each, with each engine generating up to 22,000lbf of thrust.

The maximum speed of the aircraft will be 870km/h. The service ceiling will be 41,000ft (12,500m). The range of E175-E2 will be 3,556km (1,920nm), while that of E-190-E2 will be 5,186km (2,800nm) and E195-E2 will be 3,704km (2,000nm).

The maximum takeoff weight of E175-E2, E190-E2, and E195-E2 variants will be 44,330kg, 56,900kg and 59,400kg respectively. The maximum landing weight will be 39,100kg, 49,450kg and 53,750kg respectively.

Contractors for the second generation E-Jets

The key components for E2 aircraft are being supplied by Liebherr (control systems for flaps and slats), Moog (fly-by-wire systems) and Rockwell Collins (horizontal stabiliser control systems).

"ILFC further ordered for 50 E2 jets including 25 E190-E2 and 25 E195-E2 aircraft in July 2013."

The wheels, brakes, auxiliary power unit (APU) and electrical systems are being provided by UTC Aerospace Systems. Crane Aerospace & Electronics will provide electronic control module for the landing gear, brake control systems and proximity sensors.

Triumph will supply fuselage segments, rudder and elevators. Aernnova Aerospace was selected to provide vertical and horizontal stabilisers.

Intertechnique will supply engine and APU fuel feed, pressure refuelling, fuel transfer and ventilation systems.

Embraer awarded a contract to Eaton in October 2013 to deliver hydraulic components, including pumps and power transfer units, for the E2 aircraft including E190, E195 and E175.
