GMR Airports has introduced an AI-powered digital twin platform at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, Telangana, India.
This platform, along with the newly unveiled next-generation Airport Predictive Operation Centre (APOC), is expected to transform the management and functionality of airport systems.
The digital twin platform combines airside, landside, and terminal operations into a cohesive system, leveraging real-time data to enhance decision-making, reduce disruptions, and maintain smooth operations.
The platform will gradually become the standard operating model at all airports operated by GMR.
Some of the features of the platform include intelligent crowd management, flow and queue analytics, passenger experience analytics, real-time insights, and behaviour analytics.
The intelligent crowd management feature employs real-time analytics to enhance flow and security, thus reducing congestion and improving safety.
The platform’s flow and queue analytics will boost terminal operations, cutting down wait times and the risk of missed flights.
Additionally, passenger experience analytics will ensure high-visibility areas are tailored to support special needs, fostering a more inclusive and comfortable journey.
The platform also provides real-time insights into throughput, gate usage, and dwell times, in addition to behaviour analytics that are designed to strengthen security and passenger flow.
GMR Airports South executive director and chief innovation officer SGK Kishore said: “GMR Group is leading the aviation industry with cutting-edge technological innovations, focusing on significantly enhancing passenger experiences.
“Our new AI-enabled digital platform and the Airport Predictive Operation Centre (APOC) set new standards in modernising operations and elevating passenger satisfaction.
“By integrating real-time data and advanced analytics, we ensure smooth passenger flow, reduced wait times, and personalised services, shaping the future of air travel with unparalleled efficiency and safety.”
The AI-enabled digital platform also boasts of some advance operational features such as virtual simulations to aid in airside efficiency and proactive decision-making, smart traffic monitoring to help mitigate landside congestion and IoT analytics to streamline parking operations.
