Major US airline Delta has announced the expansion and completion of the Concourse A facility, which involved the opening of 13 new gates at Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC).

Through the addition of the 13 new gates, Delta’s total number of gate operations has risen to 50.

The 900,000ft² facility forms part of a $5.1bn redevelopment programme that commenced at the airport in 2021. According to SLC airport, the project has been “funded by user fees, primarily by airlines serving SLC”.

Adam Ryan, managing director of Delta’s SLC operations, said: “The completion of Concourse A comes just ahead of what we anticipate will be a busy holiday and ski travel season.

“It’s a privilege for the 5,400 Delta employees here in Salt Lake City to share this state-of-the-art facility with our customers as we continue to provide them with the elevated experience they have come to expect from Delta.”

In addition, all planes departing from Concourse A will now board and deplane using jet bridges, eliminating the need for bus transfers to outlying hardstands.

Salt Lake City mayor Erin Mendenhall said: “These new gates and amenities will further elevate the guest experience at the Salt Lake City International Airport for Salt Lakers and visitors from all over the world.

“Salt Lake City is proud to be a Delta hub in the West and home to one of the top-performing airports in the world. The completion of this expansion will provide efficient services and modern facilities for travellers who are eager for a seamless journey.”

The Concourse A expansion will enhance services for Delta customers, as the airline is the largest operator at SLC, serving almost 30,000 passengers daily.

Delta further solidified its position as the top global airline in SLC with a new lease arrangement with the airport that will raise Delta's gate count from 55 to 66. The completion of the next project is expected in 2027.

Furthermore, this project forms part of over $12bn in investments from Delta to airport projects in the last ten years.
