Ground handling organisation Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has signed a five-year contract with Air France KLM Martinair Cargo at Belgium’s Brussels Airport.
This contract is part of its commitment to Brussels Airport.
Under the contract that began this month, WFS will provide cargo, mail and truck handling solutions, as well as special product services, for around 30,000t of cargo per year.
WFS won the Air France KLM Martinair Cargo contract as it prepares for the opening of the new 25,000m² Building 835 at Brussels Airport.
The new facility is part of Brussels Airport’s €100m investment in its cargo area, which includes 3,000m² of refrigerated storage for pharma and perishable goods, a covered airside staging area, and an external container storage.
As part of the company’s global commitment to the highest security and safety levels, it will feature full CCTV coverage, X-rays and other security technologies.

By GlobalDataWFS EMEAA senior vice-president commercial Marc Claesen said: “We are extremely proud that Air France KLM Martinair Cargo are extending their partnership with WFS in Europe as we continue to invest in our presence at Brussels Airport.
“WFS is making this strong commitment to support our customers, the Belgian freight and logistics industry, and Brussels Airport’s ambition to be one of Europe’s most important and professional cargo hubs. We are extremely confident in the long-term airport’s growth potential.”
The launch of Building 835 will mark the second new WFS cargo terminal at Brussels Airport within two years.
In February last year, it began operations in the airport’s 832 custom building, a 9,400m² cargo centre aimed to provide quick and efficient loading and unloading, as well as cargo handling, and truck and freight handling.
The 17 customers of WFS at Brussels and their shipping customers will also benefit from technologies such as a slot booking app and self-acceptance systems.
In March last year, WFS started providing ground handling services to easyJet’s passengers at Edinburgh Airport in the UK.
