Vision-Box, a provider of self-service biometric-based airport solutions, has opened a new manufacturing and logistics facility in Portugal.
The company provides technology for biometric recognition and automation for passenger handling, border control and digital identity management.
The single-storey facility is located in Abóboda, Greater Lisbon. The factory and warehouse facility is spread over an area of 8,000ft².
The company noted that there is an increasing demand for airport biometrics and automation, with approximately $50bn spent on IT solutions by airports and airlines last year.
It will use the new facility to triple its production capabilities.
Vision-Box CEO Miguel Leitmann said: “The opening of Abóboda factory and warehouse facility serves the company’s growth by offering large-scale modern manufacturing, coherent with the increasing global demand for seamless travel solutions and advanced ergonomics hardware, which is one of our distinctive products’ signature.”

In May, Vision-Box supplied an automated border control platform for Bahrain International Airport’s (BIA) new Passenger Terminal Building.
Finnair also began offering biometric boarding with the company’s technology at Los Angeles International Airport.
In April, New York’s John F Kennedy (JFK) Airport Terminal One Group partnered with Vision-Box to launch facial recognition boarding platforms at the airport.
In February, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and Vision-Box launched a pilot of facial recognition self-boarding technology for passengers travelling with Cathay Pacific Airways.
