French airport operator Vinci Airports’ wholly owned subsidiary Aerodom has signed a collaboration agreement with Dominica Limpia to build a waste recovery centre at Las Américas International Airport this month.
Dominican company Aerodom, which owns a concession contract with the state to manage six airports in the Dominican Republic, runs the Las Américas Airport.
As part of a new waste management programme, up to 160t of recyclable waste produced by terminal and offices at Las Americas Airport will be stored by the recovery centre for recycling.
Airport users, passengers, employees, and subcontractors will be provided education programmes, aimed at changing the mentality about waste reduction and separation.
These exercises are an integral part of Vinci Airports’ AirPact environmental strategy, which sets out a global environmental commitment based on four shared goals.
The goals are to obtain and maintain Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) for all airports in the network, as well as redice Vinci Airports’ energy consumption by 20% between now and 2020.
