A joint venture (JV) of Turner and Flatiron has secured a contract to build a new terminal worth $2.27bn at San Diego International Airport in the US.
The new building will replace the existing 1960s terminal and will be equipped with additional seating in the gate area, restaurants and shops, as well as additional security checkpoints.

Overall, the 1.2 million square foot terminal will be developed in two phases and will feature 30 gates.
The first phase, set to open in the first quarter of 2025, will feature 19 gates. The final phase will deliver the remaining 11 gates by early 2027.
Once complete, San Diego Airport will feature 62 gates.
Construction is expected to begin late next year, subject to necessary environmental permits.

The plan also includes delivering an underground fuel-delivery system that will minimise the need for tankers to supply fuel to aircraft.
This will lower emissions from the airport, as well as enable quicker turnarounds.
Turner and Flatiron are subsidiaries of engineering and infrastructure group Hochtief. The JV has completed several projects together, including work at airports in San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento and Denver.
San Diego International Airport is operated by the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority (SDCRAA).
Earlier this year, SDCRAA contracted Jacobs for the airport expansion plan.
