Swissport International has opened its second air cargo warehouse at Vienna International Airport.
The facility has a surface area of 2,100m², taking Swissport’s total cargo space at the airport to 7,000m².
The air cargo facility has direct airside access, enabling shipments to be transported to and from the aircraft faster than earlier.
Swissport is one of two air cargo handlers at Vienna International Airport offering direct access to the apron.
Swissport senior vice-president for Central Europe Willy Ruf said: “We are pleased to be able to offer our clients even shorter transit times for their shipments going through Vienna.
“The opening of the new warehouse is another step to meet our strategic goal of offering direct airside access at each of the 15 airports at which we offer cargo services in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.”

By GlobalDataThis facility was constructed by Flughafen Wien, Vienna Airport operator.
Swissport signed a long-term lease agreement for the facility.
Under this agreement, Swissport has relocated its cargo documentation services to new offices in the building in order to provide clients with a one-stop service.
The second warehouse opening is in line with Swissport’s global cargo strategy to focus on higher-yielding, profitable growth.
Recently, Swissport was appointed by Finnair Cargo as the new operator of its COOL Nordic Cargo Hub facility at Helsinki Airport.
Swissport is also responsible for managing cargo handling at London Heathrow Airport after it raised its shares of a joint venture with Air France to 100%.
The company is also concentrating on special cargo such as pharmaceuticals and has been expanding its IATA CEIV-certified airfreight facilities to its global cargo handling network.
