SITA has teamed up with NEC Corporation and Star Alliance to facilitate touchless airport experience through biometric self-service touchpoints.
Under this partnership, frequent flyer programme passengers of Star Alliance member airlines will be able to use their biometric ID as their boarding pass across participating airlines and airports.
The agreement aims at delivering numerous biometric projects simultaneously for accelerating the biometric passenger processing availability for Star Alliance’s member airlines.
After merging with SITA’s Smart Path solution, the Star Alliance biometrics platform will be able to utilise the former’s shared airport infrastructure, which is already set up in over 460 airports.
Furthermore, the NEC I:Delight platform will be merged with SITA Smart Path solution.
This platform accurately identifies those passengers who have selected to use the service.

By GlobalDataThe I:Delight platform, which is already deployed by Star Alliance member airlines at numerous airports in Europe, can even spot mask-wearing travellers.
For using the biometrically enabled touchpoints, passengers are required to register only once.
This process helps in streamlining the passenger’s journey through the airport while following health and hygiene safety measures in the times of the Covid-19 pandemic.
SITA CEO Barbara Dalibard said: “With this agreement, the benefits of biometric identity will be extended from a single airline or journey to a vast network of airlines. That is truly unique and demonstrates the benefits digital identity can bring to the passenger.”
Last month, SITA partnered with the health pass platform and app AOKpass to support the recovery of cross-border travel.
