Skysens Teknoloji has integrated Semtech’s LoRa devices and wireless radio frequency technology (LoRa) into its smart asset tracking solutions for Istanbul Airport.
Istanbul Airport currently serves over 100 million passengers per year with plans to increase it to around 200 million.

Skysens implemented an internet of things (IoT) platform, which features 3,000 LoRa-based sensors. Plans also include the deployment of 10,000 total sensors upon the airport’s completion.
Skysens delivered the LoRaWAN-based network and applications to connect airport sensors that will also be used by other airport tenants and airline companies.
Istanbul Airport uses Skysens’ LoRa-based geolocation sensors for monitoring the location of vehicles, personnel and luggage without GPS.
The LoRa-based sensors reduce airport operational expenses, resulting in predictive maintenance, accurate asset monitoring, and decreased energy consumption. All data monitoring and analysis is achieved via Skysens’ own Cloud IoT platform.

Istanbul Airport is under construction on an area of 76.5 million square meters to the north of Istanbul, 35km away from the city centre. It serves as a global hub between Asia, Africa, and Europe.
The construction is planned to be completed in four phases. The first phase was finalised following the commissioning of two runways and a terminal with a passenger capacity of 90 million.
Once complete, the airport is expected to host flights to more than 300 destinations. Flights currently take off to 45 cities domestically.
On international routes, travellers can reach 249 cities in 110 countries from the international terminal at Istanbul Airport.
