SkyDrive, a Japanese eVTOL manufacturer, along with South Carolina’s private jet charter SAI Flight, and Greenville Downtown Airport, have announced a collaboration to develop commercial electric air taxi routes in the region.

This partnership, formalised through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), aims to leverage the SKYDRIVE eVTOL aircraft for air-cargo, air-taxi, and emergency services.

The collaboration will include the development of practical eVTOL use cases, with routes originating from Greenville Downtown Airport.

SkyDrive CEO Tomohiro Fukuzawa said: “This partnership marks a significant milestone in our efforts to drive business growth in South Carolina, where we have been actively expanding since 2023.

“It presents a valuable opportunity to accelerate our expansion and bring Advanced Air Mobility solutions to the region. We are deeply grateful to Greenville Downtown Airport and SAI Flight for their support and collaboration.”

Supported by the Greenville City Economic Development Corporation and the Greenville Area Development Corporation, the initiative involves coordination with local and state governments, as well as businesses, to enhance travel options for residents and visitors.

SAI Flight Services, operating from Greenville Downtown Airport, will be the primary service provider and oversee the eVTOL operations and maintenance. It pre-ordered ten SkyDrive eVTOL aircraft to support advanced air mobility.

Since establishing its US base in January 2023, SkyDrive has been pursuing expansion in the American market. The new alliance is expected to help identify and commercialise viable air routes within Greenville.
