Silk Way Group has announced the development of a new cargo airport within the Alat Free Economic Zone in Azerbaijan at COP 29 in Baku, the Azeri capital.
The airport will bolster the group’s operational capabilities and leverage the zone’s strategic potential for increased business prospects and efficiencies.
It will be operated by the Silk Way Alat Free Economic Zone Company, which was established by Silk Way Group to advance its logistics and infrastructural initiatives.
Silk Way Alat Free Economic Zone Company CEO Jawad Dbila said: “The new cargo airport will serve as a pillar of the Alat Free Economic Zone, transforming our vision for Azerbaijan’s logistics and transportation capabilities into reality.
“As an official Silk Way entity, our focus is on integrating sustainable practices and advanced infrastructure to enhance connectivity, attract international partnerships, and reinforce Azerbaijan’s role as a transit logistics hub. We look forward to witnessing this project’s impact on our region’s economic landscape and the opportunities it will generate.”
The airport will feature 18 aircraft stands, a 4,000m runway and taxiway, an air traffic control centre, and other essential amenities. It will incorporate sustainable technologies and alternative energy sources.

The airport will utilise TKH’s advanced airfield ground lighting technology for the runway construction. This aligns with COP29’s goals and underscores eco-friendly practices.
