Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport has partnered with British software company StorMagic to deploy its SvSAN platform to manage control system data in its backup power facility.
Netherlands-based Engie has reviewed and advised the airport to update its data management infrastructure.
Schiphol’s fully-automated power plant is currently managed by a control system to reduce energy costs associated with heating and cooling terminal buildings and gates.
As part of the deal, the two-server solution of the airport will be integrated with the SvSAN platform to run firmware and hardware during live production.
Bart de Goeij, responsible for asset management/maintenance and operations at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol said: “We replaced an ageing system with a highly available supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system to ensure redundancy and meet our stringent SLA requirements.
“SvSAN’s high availability has delivered 100% uptime, thus protecting our organisation from fines and penalties associated with downtime.”

By GlobalDataThe new configuration upgrades at the airport include Dell PE520 servers, VMware vSphere v5.5, Enterprise Plus Edition hypervisor and StorMagic SvSAN Advanced Edition.
According to Schiphol, the configuration is being accessed by more than 70 users to analyse I/O data for pump controllers and industrial equipment as well as to remotely monitor the systems.
StorMagic sales and business development senior vice-president John Glendenning said: “Edge deployments run onsite where data is created, giving users unsurpassed control and management of their systems and information due to sheer proximity of the infrastructure to the data itself.
“Customers like Schiphol are flocking towards hyper-converged infrastructure deployments now because of the simplicity, flexibility and affordability HCI delivers.”
