Salt Lake City International Airport in the US has reopened after a 5.7 magnitude earthquake hit the city and caused the airport to close for a few hours.
The earthquake struck about 30 miles from Delta’s hub at the airport. According to Utah Emergency Management, the tremor centred in north-central Utah, US.

According to Delta, air traffic was stopped and a number of inbound flights were diverted to other airports in the area.
Salt Lake City Airport announced on Twitter: “The airport is not currently operational. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) tower, terminals and concourses have been evacuated. Road to the airport has been closed. Please do not come out to the airport.”
The air traffic control tower was evacuated. There has been no report of deaths or casualties.
Meanwhile, Delta has resumed limited operations at the airport. Full operations will resume with the availability of backup equipment and when the main tower is ‘deemed safe’.

“All of our on-duty employees are safe and accounted for, and we’re working closely with the airport to be able to resume our operation as soon as possible.”
