Australia’s Rex Airlines has announced plans to establish a new Boeing Flight Simulator Centre and build a new aircraft hangar at its Sydney headquarters.
It also plans to increase the capacity of its call centre in Orange, New South Wales (NSW).
The plans are supported by the NSW Government under the $177m (A$250m) Jobs Plus programme, under which the state government has agreed to provide streamlined planning approvals, as well as payroll tax relief and rebates to facilitate infrastructure construction.
Rex Airlines deputy chairman John Sharp said: “Without the Jobs Plus Program assistance, Rex’s expansion plans in the state would never have materialised in this pandemic climate and many new jobs would not be created.”
With this move, the NSW Government aims to help Rex Airlines expand its footprint in the state.
The government further said that the move will generate more than 2,500 employment opportunities.

By GlobalDataNSW Premier Dominic Perrottet stated that having Sydney as the airline’s national hub was part of the government’s economic recovery plan.
He added that a strong domestic aviation sector would support the state’s recovery from the pandemic and would lead to a ‘healthy competition’ in the industry.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said: “This funding builds on our commitment to better connect people across all corners of the state, whether it is locals travelling to the city or Sydneysiders checking out what regional NSW has to offer.
“Regional NSW is the engine room of the state and this investment will bolster Rex’s regional footprint, helping stimulate local economies, boosting livelihoods and creating jobs where they’re needed most.”
