Ender Diagnostics and Swissport subsidiary Checkport Schweiz have opened a PCR testing centre at Zurich Airport in Switzerland.
Scheduled to commence operations from 7 January, the facility will offer Enders Diagnostics’ PCR tests carried out with saliva samples.
Instead of 24 to 48 hours, the test result will be available within five hours.
The process of testing will be more convenient than conventional tests because of the saliva-based sample collection.
With no aid required by medical personnel, the tests will be sold as self-test kits and can be independently performed in test boxes.
The test boxes will be cleaned and sanitised after each customer.

By GlobalDataThe collected samples will be sent to the Swiss Analysis AG laboratory four times a day by a dedicated courier service.
The cost of the test will be approximately €180 and customers will receive their test results by password-protected e-mail.
Presently, the testing centre will operate every day between 6am and 8pm with no prior appointment required.
The tests will benefit those who are not showing Covid-19 symptoms but need a test for travel or other purposes.
It will also offer a quick PCR testing option for airline passengers requiring a test certificate.
Checkport Schweiz AG managing director Daniel Steffen said: “We are pleased to partner with Ender Diagnostics for the Covid-19 rapid testing centre at Zurich Airport.
“Passengers travelling to countries that require proof of a negative Covid-19 test prior to departure now enjoy a simpler pre-departure procedure. Our new service brings great relief to air travel. We are convinced it will help motivate people to return to flying.”
On 20 October 2020, Swissport, along with airport services firm Collinson, opened up rapid testing facilities at the UK’s Heathrow Airport.
