The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has collaborated with American Airlines to implement a new screening technology at selected American Airlines hubs across the country.
The new technology will include automated security screening lanes and computed tomography (CT) scanners.

Already in use at one US airport, the TSA automated screening lanes implement technology and screening station modifications that help improve the airport security standards.
TSA administrator Peter V Neffenger said: "Our foremost priority is the security of the travelling public."
The new screening lanes can also reduce the time taken by travellers at the security screening zone by nearly 30%, making their journeys smoother and faster.
TSA and American Airlines intend to install these lanes at Chicago O’Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles and Miami airports.

By GlobalDataThe CT bag-screening technology will be deployed at a Phoenix TSA screening checkpoint as a pilot programme that is scheduled to start by the end of this year.
American Airlines COO Robert Isom said: "These state-of-the-art lanes, along with new detection technology that will be tested in Phoenix, will enhance security effectiveness and efficiency, while improving the customer experience."
The 3D CT technology can allow travellers to carry liquids, gels and aerosols, as well as laptops in their hand baggage at all times, thereby facilitating a faster throughput and less bin use.
If the pilot testing at Phoenix proves to be successful, TSA might install CT technology at other checkpoints across the US.
By collaborations with airports, vendors, airlines, and the counter-terrorism communities, TSA also intends to introduce additional automated checkpoint lanes in order to improve the screening process and minimise wait times.
