Advanced security solutions provider Smiths Detection has inked a $125m contract to install a range of advanced detection equipments for Abu Dhabi Airport’s new terminal.
These systems will be installed at Midfield Terminal Building Project that is expected to be completed in 2017.
The company will equip the airport’s terminal with the HI-SCAN 10080 XCT, which is a high speed explosives detection system that makes use of X-ray and computed tomography technologies. It will help the airport to increase its annual capacity towards 40 million passengers.
aTiX (Advanced Threat Inspection X-Ray) systems will also be installed to screen carry-on baggages.
The terminal will also sport 3D workstations for outbound equipment screening by the Police and 2D workstations for the inbound screening by Customs.
Smiths Detection President Richard Ingram said: "This contract win highlights our success in supplying advanced, integrated security solutions that meet the operational needs of our customers while delivering long-term value. We look forward to consolidating our already close partnership with such an important and rapidly expanding hub airport.
