Smiths Detection has been awarded a £19m contract by Falcon Group to deliver upgraded detection systems for hold baggage, passenger checkpoint and cargo screening at Egyptian airports.
The contract is part of the larger national programme to enhance security for existing airport equipment.
Under the terms of the deal, Smiths Detection will deliver advanced people screening systems, X-ray scanners and trace detectors at the airports.

“The range of screening systems included in this contract will help provide world-class detection capabilities to protect against evolving threats.”
As part of the project, the company will install its HI-SCAN 6040aTiX and HI-SCAN 6040-2is HR screening solutions at the airports' security checkpoints.

To facilitate additional passenger screening, the company will implement mm-wave eqo scanners, which can detect items of any material under clothing.
Deployed at passenger checkpoints and in hold baggage screening, the newly-launched IONSCAN 600 helps spot and identify explosives from traces found on luggage or clothing.
The scope of the contract also includes the installation of HI-SCAN 100100T-2is and HI-SCAN 145180-2is X-ray machines, which can be used to screen oversized luggage and cargo in order to detect explosives and other threats.
CIP-300 and HCVP Z60 car inspection X-ray portals will be provided for vehicle and cargo screening, while the mobile HCVMe35 will be supplied to inspect loaded trucks and containers at airport entrances.
Delivery of the advanced threat detection equipment by Smiths Detection is scheduled to be completed by this month.
