PW1100G-JM

Pratt & Whitney has secured a contract from Air New Zealand to provide PurePower PW1100G-JM engines for the A320neo aircraft family.

Under the deal, Pratt & Whitney will supply 13 PW1100G-JM engines, as well as provide fleet management support services for up to 16 years.

Air New Zealand chief operations officer Bruce Parton said: "The PurePower GTF engine will enable us to not only reduce our fuel burn, but also lower our operations cost, which is great for our business."

The PurePower Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines family has accumulated more than 17,000 hours of testing, including 4,000 hours of flight.

Pratt & Whitney has so far logged more than 6,300 orders, including options for the PurePower engines with 60 customers from 30 countries.

"The PurePower GTF engine will enable us to not only reduce our fuel burn, but also lower our operations cost."

Pratt & Whitney commercial engines president Greg Gernhardt said: "As the PurePower GTF engine continues to meet or exceed customer expectations, it is evident that our unparalleled technology to reduce fuel burn, environmental emissions and noise prove that Pratt & Whitney is the industry leader in propulsion technology."

The company expects to deliver Air New Zealand’s engines between 2017 and 2019.

The PW1100G-JM is the third variant of the PurePower PW1000G line. It can generate 33,000lb of thrust.

The engine features an advanced gear system for the engine fan and advanced core comprising an ultra-efficient high-pressure compressor, a low-emissions combustor, and high-pressure turbine module.

Earlier this year, Airbus has selected Korean Air Aerospace Division to supply Sharklet wingtip devices, including a wingspan extension, for the new A330neo.
