The Philippines has completed approximately 80% of the development of the Laguindingan International Airport project, which is expected to start operations during the second quarter of 2012.
The project’s components include carrying out civil works and installing the air navigation system and support facilities (ANSSF).
The civil works cover the runway, taxiways, aircraft parking bays, the passenger terminal building, the operations and control tower building, a powerhouse building, the cargo terminal, a maintenance building, a cold water receiving station, an administration building and a wastewater treatment plant.
The ANSSF works include the supply, delivery, installation, testing and commissioning of the ILS/DME, the DVOR/DME, an airfield lighting system, an ANS ATC communication system and an automated weather observation system.
The airport will replace Lumbia Airport in the city of Cagayan de Oro.
The PHP7.8bn ($182.2m) project is being implemented by the Department of Transportation and Communication.
