Northrop Grumman’s UK-based air traffic management (ATM) subsidiary Park Air Systems has received an order to deliver its Sapphire ATM communication system to the Chilean airport network.
The system will be the first turnkey solution of Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil (DGAC), the air navigation service provider (ANSP) of the Chilean airport network.
Of the eight DGAC-operated international airports, six are located in mainland Chile while the remaining two are on the Pacific island of Robinson Crusoe and King George Island.
Under the terms of the deal, Park Air Systems will supply eight complete Sapphire very high frequency (VHF) and ultra high frequency (UHF) ATM communication systems, in addition to factory acceptance tests, training, installation and commissioning.
Park Air Systems’ MARC Server offers a robust remote control and monitoring system (RCMS) that is essential for the remote locations of these Chilean airports.
With the deployment of the MARC Server, the DGAC maintenance staff will be able to efficiently run ground-to-air radio communications, as well as other associated systems.

By GlobalDataPark Air Systems managing director Danny Milligan said: “Considering the remote locations and the complex logistics of transport and power generation, the small size, light weight and power efficiency characteristics of our Sapphire radio products really do matter for this application.”
The new systems supplied are based on the company’s Sapphire portfolio, which features its latest Park Air System T6 radio, backed up by a series of services and support tools that includes Park Air Systems’ Customer Portal.
The Park Air Systems’ Customer Portal is a web-based hub, which comprises comprehensive data, including technical documents, product news and updates on the progress of customer orders and support requests.
The ATM communication systems are expected to be delivered to the DGAC before the end of this year.
