Munich Airport Group and Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) have signed a sister airports agreement to cooperate in knowledge, employee skills and information sharing.
Majority owned by the South African Government, ACSA is an autonomous body that operates nine airports in the country, including the three main OR Tambo International, Cape Town International and King Shaka International airports.
ACSA is part of a consortium that manages Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai, India. It has also partnered with Brazilian company Invepar to manage the development, maintenance and operations of Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo, Brazil.
Under the sister airports agreement, Munich International Airport will share its aerotropolis (airport city) experience with ACSA.
The operator is planning to develop OR Tambo airport into an aerotropolis, in partnership with the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.
ACSA CEO Bongani Maseko said: "Munich International Airport’s impressive history in successfully delivering world-leading aviation construction, technology and customer service projects will provide both the experience and insights crucial to laying the foundations of Africa’s first aerotropolis."
