ENAV, the air navigation service provider (ANSP) of Italy, has chosen US-based technology company Harris to enhance the efficiency of the country’s air traffic management (ATM) network.
Under the terms of the deal, Harris will implement its Osyris Extended Arrival Manager (E-AMAN) technology to enable the ANSP manage its flow of arriving aircraft by ensuring the best use of available ATM resources, such as runways and airspace.

The new solution will also help ENAV balance its traffic demand and optimise passenger traffic to and from Italy’s capacity-constrained airports, while facilitating collaborative management.
The Harris system will support some of the busiest airports of the country, such as Rome Fiumicino Airport and Milan Malpensa Airport, along with Italy’s four area control centres situated in Rome, Milan, Padua and Brindisi.
Harris Mission Networks vice-president and general manager Kelle Wendling said: “The Osyris E-AMAN system helps air traffic controllers better manage cross-border arrivals and departures.
“ENAV’s adoption of the Osyris E-AMAN system represents the fourth major implementation of the system in Europe and supports Harris’ overall strategy of becoming a global ATM technology provider.”
The Osyris AMAN solution is currently deployed in more than 25 locations worldwide.
Benefits of the Harris solution include a common terminal manoeuvring area information for high-density airport operations, advanced delay sharing for delay distribution across several area control centres and sectors.
Other benefits include extended horizon and cross border arrival management and advanced runway allocation strategy / runway balancing capabilities.
In 2015, Exelis, a subsidiary of Harris, was selected to implement its Osyris Pre-Departure Sequence Planner at Singapore's Changi Airport to expedite departure times for aircraft.
