General Dynamics subsidiary Gulfstream Aerospace has started the test flight of its new G600 business jet in the US.

During the first flight of the programme, the G600 departed Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport and flew for 2h and 53min.

Gulfstream has also added two more G600 test aircraft, which will participate in the newly started flight-test programme by early next year.

“Today’s flight, which went flawlessly, represents a significant step forward in the journey to certification and delivery.”

In October, the company delivered the first G600 test aircraft to its Flight Test Center in Savannah.

Gulfstream Aerospace president Mark Burns said: “Launching the G600’s flight-test programme is a milestone for us and our customers, who have guided the vision for this aircraft from the beginning.

“We look forward to delivering this aircraft to them in 2018.
