American courier delivery major FedEx has signed an agreement with Boeing to purchase 50 additional 767-300F aircraft for $10bn, at list prices.
The deal is part of the company’s fleet modernisation plan, and includes options for additional 50 767F aircraft.
The new aeroplanes will be delivered to FedEx’s wholly owned subsidiary FedEx Express between 2018 and 2023.
FedEx Express president and CEO David Bronczek said: "Acquiring additional 767F aircraft is a continuation of our very successful air fleet modernisation programme and will enable us to reduce structural costs, improve our fuel efficiency and enhance the reliability of our global network."
The unit currently has 106 767F airliners on order through fiscal 2023.
The 767F aeroplane is based on the 767-300ER (extended range) design, and can carry 58t of cargo on the intercontinental range.

By GlobalDataFedEx plans to use the new aircraft to replace its existing freighters, including Boeing MD10s and MD11s, and Airbus A300-600s and A310s, reported Reuters. As of 31 May, the company has 641 freighter aircraft.
A Boeing spokesman said: "We appreciate the confidence that FedEx has shown in the 767."
Developed in the 1980s, the 767 made twin-engine jets available for long-range flights.
FedEx Express is said to be the last remaining customer for the 767 aircraft, as the passenger version is being dominated by next-generation Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A330.
