EL AL Airlines, the flag carrier of Israel, has acquired 11 additional CTX 5800 explosives detection systems (EDS) from Smiths Detection to screen hold baggage at airports.
Smiths Detection has supplied the Israeli airline with explosives screening solutions for almost 20 years while working in collaboration with local partner Hyper-Tech Advanced Systems since 1993.
Slated to be installed at airports this year, the current order takes the total number of CTX 5800 EDS operated by EL AL Airlines to nearly 30.
CTX 5800 has been designed to allow small and mid-sized airports to plan for evolving threats as well as future expansion.
Smiths Detection Global EDS director Richard Siegwald said: “A global leader in passenger safety and security, Smiths Detection is delighted that EL AL continues to recognise the detection and operational capabilities of CTX 5800.
“By combining field-tested explosives detection solutions with a global service footprint and rapid response capabilities, Smiths Detection offers all airports and airlines a reliable pathway to advanced hold baggage screening.”
