Belgium’s Brussels Airport has reported a record quarter this year with 7.5 million passengers, up 3.1% compared with the same quarter of 2015.
In September, the airport reported a traffic growth of 6.1% compared with the same month last year, totalling 2.4 million passengers.
While the total number of transfer passengers during the month remained the same as the previous month, the number of originating departing passengers increased significantly by 6.8%.
In August, air traffic movement from Brussels Airport to destinations such as Turkey, Egypt, and Tunisia registered a significant rise.
Also, the rise in passenger numbers has been supported by the launch of Brussels Airlines’ new long-haul flight service to Mumbai, India, and the return of the Delta Air Lines flight from Atlanta.
However, freight traffic in September fell by 1.1% compared with the same month in 2016.

By GlobalDataLast month, the full-freight segment at the Belgian airport reported a fall of approximately 17% in September 2016.
The decline is primarily due to the departure of certain airlines following the stringent noise regulations launched in Brussels.
Over the coming months, this decline in freight volumes will be partly offset as several cargo flights are slated to be moved from Schiphol Amsterdam Airport to Brussels Airport.
In September, belly cargo carried onboard passenger aircraft and integrator traffic posted considerable year-on-year growth of 9% and 6% respectively.
In terms of air movements, the number of passenger flights at the airport remained unchanged last month from the same month last year.
However, the average number of passengers per flight increased from 120 to 127.
