Boeing GoldCare’s Component Services will provide airlines with materials, engineering and maintenance.

British Airways currently operates eight 787s, and has 34 more aircraft on order.

British Airways engineering director Andy Kerswill said: "This new Boeing service, which provides us with replacement parts quickly and efficiently, will help us to maintain our global 787 flight schedule and continue to deliver a consistently great performance for our customers."

"Boeing’s industry-leading services offer a simple way for airlines to reduce the total cost of airplane ownership, giving them a competitive advantage."

Boeing maintains a pool of items under the component services programme, for replacement within a timeframe determined by the airline.
