The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas, US, has unveiled its new customs facility, which will more than double its capacity to process international arrivals.

The new facility will be able to speed processing from around 200 passengers an hour to more than 400 an hour, which can be further increased to 600 passengers an hour.

The customs area, which marks the completion of the lower level of the terminal addition project called the Terminal East Infill, will start operations next week.

The airport also boasts of the world’s largest art of its kind, ‘Time Lines’ by artist Mikyoung Kim, which is more than 212ft long, almost 8ft high and totals more than 1,672ft².

"Austin-Bergstrom International Airport handled close to ten million passengers in 2013."

The artwork was commissioned by the Art in Public Places programme of the city’s economic development department. It uses holographic imagery and mimics the world’s time zones for international arrivals with Austin’s location in the middle of it.

The project’s upper level will build a connection between the ticket lobby and east concourse around Gate 5.
